Top Ten Ways to Develop Your Creativity

With desire, joy and a little discipline you can enhance your creative instincts and produce unique, new works for yourself and the world.

1. I have a desire to create. Being creative fills my spirit with joy.

2. I allow my creative expression to flow, like water, following the easiest, most natural path possible - the path of least resistance.

3. I have selected a medium, area, or discipline that I am, at this moment, drawn to or inspired to explore/work in (this can change over time) and have familiarized myself with at least a few of the basic tools and techniques of the creative activity I have chosen.

4. I set aside time to create on a regular basis...pen in hand or brush or mixing bowl or instrument or...By doing so, I allow creativity to become a normal, ongoing part of my life.

5. I have one special space and/or continually seek out diverse and wonderful places for possibilities and ideas to be born and to germinate.

6. I enjoy the process of creating for the sake of creating, without having to be perfect or to please others.

7. I spend time being childlike and playful, unafraid to risk and explore, willing to see things newly, without preconceptions or filters.

8. I balance playful non-directed exploration with a willingness to channel my creative efforts toward developing an idea or theme or focus to create around.

9. I cultivate the discipline of being fully in the moment, focusing my energy on and attention on the project at hand.

10. I am committed to being true to myself, always creating from my own knowing and heart space. I am able to explore and appreciate the artistic expressions of others without imitating them or subordinating my own unique creative gift.
